Season 2009/2010 News
Weekly Review - Feb 6th and 7th After another blank week due to more snow and ice, the club got back to business. The Ladies first team faced a very difficult quarter final League Cup tie at Peterborough and it turned out to be a nailbiting match. Having lost 4-0 at Peterborough in the league earlier in the season, a very young Hethersett side knew they would have to be at their best to defend the trophy we won the last two seasons. At the end of extra-time the teams were locked together at 3-3. The match went to penalties and with the score at 5-5 Hethersett 'keeper Amy Bell saved a penalty and then coolly stepped up to score the winner. We will post more details of this game as soon as we have them. The Ladies Hearts also fielded a very young side and put in a fine display to beat Hockering 5-0. Charlotte Fisher scored twice and other goals came from Charlotte Swann, Alicia Lacey and Rhianne Brister. The Girls Under-14s had a pleasing 4-1 win at home to Blofield who usually provide tough opposition. Ella Stephenson and Sophie Rock both scored two. Saturday saw the men's side draw 2-2 at Bawdeswell with goals from Danny Gray and Matt Steward. We stay seventh in the Crown Fire South and Central Norfolk league but have games in hand on five of the teams above us. This Saturday the team take on Sporle in the semi final of the Pease League Cup. The Sunday Men's teams were also in form with the Reserves beating Wilco Fastfit 4-2 with Henry Dyson hitting a hat-trick and Adam Waters also scoring. The Sunday A side beat Spixworth Reserves 4-0. The match saw a return to goalscoring form for Robbie Lincoln who hit a couple. Dominic Doggett and Tamas Dalmay were also on target. It was a mixed bag of results for the youth teams The Under-16s went down 4-3 at Mattishall with their goals coming from Henry Wainwright (2) and Adam Edwards. The Under-13s beat St Andrew's 4-1 with Robert Warminger hitting another hat-trick and the other coming from Tom Read. The Under-14s lost 6-0 at Watton and the Under-12s were beaten 3-2 at Dereham in their League Cup quarter-final. Their scorers were Ashley Gray and Connor Stearman. The Under-11s went down 15-0 at home to Rocklands. Finally the Veterans hit form to beat Norwich Rovers 5-2.
County Call Ups Congratulations to Emily Coates and Emma Mulley who have been selected in the 16 player Norfolk squad to play Suffolk on 16th February at Diss Town FC (7.45 p.m kick off)

Team of the Month Our Saturday men's team has been named Crown Fire Central and South Norfolk League team of the month for November and December. The period saw us win all our league matches with victories over Sporle (5-1), Bawdeswell (6-3) and Wendling (2-1) and also beat Narborough Res 9-0 and Northwold 2-0 to reach the semi-finals of the Pease League Cup. We also beat Flitcham 1-0 in the Norfolk Primary Cup. The team will be presented with a new match ball by the league at a forthcoming match. Last year we won two monthly awards and were named the Crown Fire League club of this season after winning Division Four and reaching two cup finals.

County Successes Congratulations to Megan Todd and Amy Bell for playing for Norfolk Under-16s against Suffolk. The team consisted mainly of local school players with a few centre of excellence players and they came up against the majority of the Ipswich Academy and put up a superb display to only go down 3-0. The team was managed by our Ladies First Team player Kate Ellis who was assisted by our Ladies First team manager Chris Bolderstone. Meanwhile Adele McCrory made her full Norfolk debut in the recent game against Essex while Emily Coates was presented with her commemorative cap for completing 12 county appearances.

Fireworks Success Hethersett’s first ever community firework spectacular has been heralded a success. Over 600 attended the event in the grounds of Hethersett High School organised by Hethersett Athletic Football Club. A number of local groups including Cringleford Scouts, Hethersett High School, Hethersett Junior School, Hethersett Athletic Football Club and Hethersett Social Club, took the opportunity to get involved and raise funds. The evening included a fireworks display aimed at younger children, followed by a main display for all the family. There was also a story telling tent, face painting, a barbecue and refreshments and sale of luminous gadgets. Thanks to the success of the evening, the football club is looking at repeating it in 2010 with even more community groups becoming involved. The event was supported by a number of sponsors including Gladedale (Anglia) Ltd, Anglian Demolition and Asbestos Ltd, Hugh J. Boswell, Trell Contractors (Watton) Ltd, Warburtons Bakery, RS Signs.
