September 14th         Hethersett     3     North Lynn   5

Hethersett  5-3 to a skilful North Lynn side who won the league last season without dropping a point.  Hethersett were hindered by the loss of 2 players ( 1 as a bridesmaid at a wedding and the goalkeeper calling off on Friday evening with a wrist injury) but started the game well and were more than holding their own.  Two defensive errors led to North Lynn being 2-0 up at half-time.  Hethersett started the 2nd half well and got the goal back that their play deserved through new signing Tammy Graves.  After this Hethersett seemed to drift off to sleep and North Lynn punished hesitancy and tiredness by scoring 3 more goals to take a 5-1 lead.  This seemed, for some reason, to wake Hethersett up and after a lot of good play between Tammy, Emma Mulley and Megan Todd, Emma pulled 2 more goals back.  Once the team is back to full strength and they have played together a bit more this season could be a successful one for them. Special mention must go to Hayleigh Baxter who played in goal and could not be faulted for the goals.

September 21st          North Walsham    2    Hethersett    4

Hethersett beat a good North Walsham team away 4-2 with 2 goals each for Emma Mulley and Hayleigh Baxter.  This game saw the league debut of Stacey and she looks to have settled in to the style of play that the girls enjoy playing.  Such was the performance of Hethersett for the first 10 minutes North Walsham scarcely touched the ball and were left chasing shadows.  Hethersett were hampered by an injury to Adele after just 10 minutes.  After dominating the game Hethersett found themselves a goal down when the Walsham centre forward chased a long ball through the centre and slotted past Cassie in the Hethersett goal. Just before half time Stacey got a nasty injury to her ankle so Adele had to come back on but was unable to run.  At half time  after some treatment Stacey returned. The score stayed the same until 10 minutes into the 2nd half when Emma Mulley carried on from last week and slotted home to make it 1-1.  Just after this Emma chased a ball she had no right to get and forced the goalkeeper into a mistake, this let her chip across goal for Hayleigh to score with a fine header.  Emma then scored another to make it 3-1.  A lapse in concentration by Cassie in goal led to Walsham pulling a goal back, but then she redeemed herself with an excellent save to deny the centre forward.  Gabby on the left wing was getting into the game and after some delightful skills delivered a ball across the area just asking for someone to apply the finishing touch which Hayleigh was glad to do. This being the last goal final score 4-2 to Hethersett.

An overall excellent performance from the girls and when everybody is fit and available we can expect more.  This has certainly made selection choices very hard for the future.

This match was marred by an incident involving 2 Norwich City supporters which resulted in the match being held up for approx 5 minutes in the 1st half.

The match started with Hethersett attacking Norwich and playing very neat football.  It wasn't long before they were 1-0 up when the ball bounced in the area and Emma sent a looping header over the Norwich keeper.  Hethersett continued to attack and from the 2nd of two quick corners were awarded a penalty for a push on Stacey by the Norwich centre back.  The penalty was delayed whilst the referee, who had an excellent game, had to reprimand a Norwich supporter who said something out of turn.  Once this had been sorted Tammy stepped up to coolly slot the ball home.  With the whole back line and keeper Cassie looking assured and confident it gave the rest of the team the chance to play the attractive football that we all know they are capable of.  The match was then held up for about 5 minutes whilst the referee dealt with another Norwich supporter which resulted in him asking her to leave the pitchside, which she refused to do, this being reported to the league via a referee's report.  No further goals in the 1st half.

The 2nd half started and it took Hethersett about 10 minutes to get on top of their game again, but once they did some of the football played was a joy to watch.  From a good passing move on the right Tammy got to the byline and delivered a lovely cross for Emma to score her 2nd with her head.  Norwich were resorting to trying their luck from well outside the area and Cassie was only really tried twice throughout the game.  Hethersett then broke down the left and when a good shot was only parried by the keeper Tammy was on hand to force the ball home.  This was the end of the scoring and the girls have now set themselves a very high benchmark for the rest of the season, which they are fully capable of reaching

October 11th                            Red Rose       1     Hethersett    10

Red Rose kicked off but the ball was won by Hethersett and a through ball from Tammy allowed Emma to run through and slot past the keeper.  Tammy then broke down the right and put a good cross over that a Red Rose defender could only help into her own net.  Emma then pounced on a ball in the area to make it 3-0 before rounding off a good display with her hat-trick goal midway through the first half.  Hethersett were continually attacking the Red Rose goal but could not score any more in the first half.

The second half started with Hethersett attacking again and from a good pass from Paige, Megan scored a good goal from outside the area.  There then followed a period of 3 goals in about the same amount of minutes as an own goal, a cool finish from Tammy and then another cool finish from Hayleigh made it 8-0 to Hethersett.  There was still time for Megan to get her second of the game after a well worked short corner and then Tammy broke from just inside the Red Rose half to slot past the keeper.  About a minute from time some sloppy play at the back let Red Rose in to score, this they deserved as they did not give up for the whole game.  The 2nd half was held up several times for about 15 minutes altogether due to injuries to Maisie, Cassie and 2 Red Rose players.  Final score 10-1.

October 25th                              Hethersett     6     Taverham    2

Despite staring the game with only 9 players due to 5 of the squad being on holiday and going a goal down early on changing Tammy in goal and putting her up front got Hethersett back on track.  Tammy equalised for Hethersett after they had missed several good chances and then the same player set up Hayleigh for the 2nd. After the break the game was played almost entirely in the Taverham half and it wasn't long before Tamy scored her 2nd goal of the game.  The same player then took a long throw into the area which was cleverly hooked in by Megan  to make the score 4-1.  A corner by Tammy was headed home by Hayleigh and the Tammy turned her marker on the half way line to race clear of the defence before cooly slotting the ball past the onrushing keeper.  Some sloppy defending let Taverham score a 2nd goal but Hethersett were worthy winners in a good game.  Special mention must go to Paige who had a great game in goal and pulled off some excellent saves in the first half to keep Hethersett in the game.  New girl Tiffany made her debut for the club after signing on today

November 15th          Hethersett     0    North Walsham     2

Team: Lulu Cook, Evie Lake, Adele Bagley, Charlie Calton, Maisie Lake, Paige Hunton, Megan Todd, Gabby Girling, Tiffany Horth, Emma Mulley, Hayleigh Baxter

Hethersett were hit by call-offs from 4 of the normal starting 11 for a game against a good North Walsham.  Hethersett  kicked off against a strong wind and never got into their stride and it was no surprise when the North Walsham centre forward put them 1-0 up giving Lulu in the Hethersett goal no chance with a good shot.  This would normally have served as a wake up call to Hethersett but not in this game.  North Walsham continued to have the greater share of possession but did not score any more in the first half.  Hethersett started the 2nd half in a better frame of mind and spent the majority of the half camped in North Walshams half but despite hitting the post and having several shots roll just past the post could not make this possession count.  North Walsham scored a 2nd goal near the end when the North Walsham centre forward charged a goal kick down and slotted past Lulu.  A game to forget for all involved.

November 29th              North Lynn     9       Hethersett    1

Team: Cassie Cushing, Evie Lake, Adele Bagley, Charlie Calton, Maisie Lake, Megan Todd, Emily Simpson, Stacey Annison, Gabby Girling, Emma Mulley, Hayleigh Baxter, Charlotte Swann

After Hethersett went ahead after about 10 minutes with Stacey scoring her 1st goal for the club straight from a corner kick the Oranges seemed to run out of ideas and energy after about 30 minutes.  Sloppy defending let North Lynn in to score 3 goals in quick succession to give a rather one-side half time score even though Hethersett more than held their own.

The 2nd half was much the same with Hethersett struggling to clear the ball from defence and more comical defending saw North Lynn score 6 more goals, including an excellent free-kick from about 25 yards by the outstanding left winger.

A final scoreline of 9 - 1 to the home side did not really reflect the effort and possession Hethersett had in the game.  Even with that scoreline Hethersett had 2 players at the back who had excellent games, Cassie in goal and Adele.

December 13th                       Thorpe     1    Hethersett     4

The game was played in very cold and wet conditions.  It was a very open start until Hethersett began to stamp their authority on the game.  After a good move down the right the ball fell to Emma on the edge of the box and after controlling it well she fired a good shot across the keeper and into the top corner of the net to make it 1-0.  Shortly afterwards Hethersett were awarded a free kick just inside the Thorpe half and Stacey put it into the box and, with the Hethersett forwards rushing in the keeper lost sight of the ball and it went straight into the net.

The 2nd half started much the same but on a break by Thorpe Cassie was forced to kick clear but the ball rebounded off the Thorpe forward and into the net to make it 1-2.  At this point Hethersett could have got nervous but instead pushed forward again and a shot from Gabby was fumbled by the keeper and Emma won it and fed Megan who scored from an acute angle. Hethersett then scored again when another shot from Emma deflected off a defender and wrong footed the keeper to make the final score 4-1 to Hethersett.  Full credit to all the players for an exceptional performance in bad conditions

January 25th                      Hethersett       1    North Walsham    2

TEAM: Ellie Preece, Evie Lake, Adele Bagley, Emily Simpson, Maisie Lake, Megan Todd, Charlie Swann, Paige Hunton, Lauren Mathews, Emma Mulley

Despite only having 10 players due to four call-offs on the night before the game, and 2 of those 10 playing with injury and illness, Hethersett went forward right from the kick off and it was hard to tell from the sidelines which team was a player short.  Midway through the 1st half the impressive Megan Todd gained the ball just inside the opponents half and with a blistering turn of pace went past 3 players before chipping the ball over the keeper from the corner of the box to score the opening goal.  With all 10 girls playing well and Ellie in goal looking assured Hethersett kept this scoreline up to half time.

The second half was a different story and North Walsham used Hethersett's tiredness to launch long balls down the middle and the pace of their centre forward enabled her to score 2 goals.  Still Hethersett were not out of it and were unlucky not to equalise when a shot from Paige hit the post and went wide. All the girls can be proud of their efforts and will think that if they had 11 players would have come out of this game with a much different result. They do have the chance to make amends for this though as there is still the 2nd leg to come in March.

January 31st                  Taverham       1      Hethersett      4

Team: Charlie Swann, Evie Lake, Stacey Annison, Charlie Calton, Lauren Mathews, Adele Bagley, Emily Simpson, Megan Todd, Emma Mulley

Despite only having 9 players, again due to late call-offs (3 injured playing for the school yesterday), Hethersett kicked off and dominated the play from the beginning.  The game was very scrappy on a bumpy pitch and Hethersett were finding it hard to get their passing game going.  From a corner the ball fell to Lauren on the edge of the box and she shot towards goal and with it looking like the keeper would save it Emily diverted it to the opposite side of the net to make it 1-0.  Hethersett were looking comfortable and when Megan got the ball just inside the Taverham  half and set off on a run past the defence there was only going to be 1 outcome and sure enough she clipped the ball past the advancing keeper to make it 2-0.  Charlie Swann in goal was virtually a spectator in the first half but kept encouraging her backline and giving directions.

Taverham kicked off the 2nd half and the pattern of play did not change.  It was a surprise that it took Hethersett so long to get their 3rd, a calm finish from Emma.  The 4th came soon after when Megan again outstripped the defence and clipped another delightful finish past the keeper.  Just after this Emily had to come off injured which left us with just 8 players on the pitch, but it did ot alter the pattern of play.  Charlie Calton then went down with a face injury and whilst she was being treated Emily came on in goal.  Taverham got a consolation goal near the end but there was still time for both Charlie Calton and Megan Todd to get injuries, Megan's was bad enough for her to come back on the field.  At the end of the game there were only 2 players that were NOT carrying injuries.

Once again the team showed that if their backs are against the wall they are a team in the true sense of the word.

March 14th                  Hethersett       4    Thorpe    5

Team: Ellie Preece, Evie Lake, Adele Bagley, Emily Simpson, Maisie Lake, Paige Hunton, Charlie Swann, Stacey Annison, Lauren Mathews, Megan Todd, Emma Mulley, Charlie Calton

This really was a game of two halves ruled by the strength of the wind.  Hethersett kicked off the game with the wind behind them and played some very attractive football.  It was'nt long before Emma chased a ball down the left flank and crossed for Megan to volley home from inside the box.  Not long after Lauren arrived unmarked at the far post to  turn in a good cross from Paige.  Emma then got the goal her display deserved and before 25 minutes had been played Lauren again scored from the left hand side tomake the score 4-0.  Thorpe kept their heads up and from a long ball that was missed by the back 4 the forward scored past Ellie in goal.  A couple of minutes later another Thorpe forward charged down a ball from the Hethersett defence and scored from outside the box.  These two pieces of sloppy play were going to come back to haunt Hethersett.  Half-time 4-2

The wind seemed to strngthen in the 2nd half and Hethersett could not get the ball forward ss much and Thorpe used the speed of their forwards to get 2 more goals either side of a penalty awarded when Chalie Swann was harshly adjudged to have fouled a Thorpe player. This makes it difficult now for Hethersett to get 2nd place in the league but they have the chance to reach the cup final next week when they play the 2nd leg of the semi-final.

March 21st         North Walsham      4     Hethersett      5

Hethersett were desperately unlucky in their Norfolk League Cup semi-final second leg. They were 2-1 down after the first leg but won this game 5-4 to take it into extra-time and penalties. They went down 3-2 on spot kicks. Hannah Waters scored twice and others came from Liz Street,  Emily Simpson and Lauren Matthews.

Ths cup semi-final kicked off with Hethersett taking the game to the opponents and after about 10 minutes after good play between Paige and Emma on the right Hannah was sent through to score with a good shot from just inside the area.  Shortly afterwards North Walsham played a long ball through the middle where the centre forward out muscled the defence to slot past Charlie to equalise.  The same scenario wasplayed out just after that with the same result.  With just over 5 minutes to go to half time Emma took a bad knock to the ankle but managed  to limp on until the break.
 
The 2nd half started with Emma in goal and Charlie coming out into the midfield.  It was very much like the Alamo with Hethersett throwing everything at the home team but not getting the breaks until the ball dropped to Lizzie just outside the area and she struck a beautiful first time shot past the keeper.  Hethersett were then awarded a free kick on the left and Emily curled it round the wall and into the far corner of the net.  North Walsham then broke on the left and when Emma, who had earlier pulled off a sensational save, could only parry the ball the onrushing forward forced the ball home meaning Hethersett had to score again to take the tie into extra time.  When the ball got played out toLauren on the left she tunred the back and was tripped just inside the area for a penalty.  Hannah stepped up and when her shot was saved was quick enough to get to the rebound and fire into the net.  Full time at 3-4 meant extra time.

No further goals in the 1st half meant Hethersett had just 15 minutes to score again to stop the dreaded panalty shoot-out.  With 3 minutes left after shots had been saved the ball broke to Lauren who rammed it into the net for what everybody thought would be the winner.  With 30 seconds left North Walsham fired a cross in from the right and it glanced off Megan's left foot and wrongfooted Emma in goal to give North Walsham the all important 4th goal. 

Disappointingly Hethersett only scored 2 from the shootout and North Walsham go through to the final.

The girls put everything into this and if it wasn't for the usual bad luck with injuries to Emma and Emily (who has been to the hospital and has severly bruised 3 metatarsals in her foot after a very late challenge) it could have been a completely different outcome as Hethersett finished the game with only 9 fit players.

March 28th       Hethersett    10       Taverham       1

Team: Emma Mulley, Evie Lake, Adele Bagley, Maisie Lake, Paige Hunton, Stacey Annison, Charlie Swann, Lauren Mathews, Megan Todd, Hannah Waters, Lizzie Street

A good performance from Hethersett on a miserable morning at Easton.  They killed the game off with only about 15 minutes gone by racing into a 3-0 lead through goals from Lizzie, Hannah and a penalty from Stacey.  Lauren then got onto the score sheet which was followed by an own goal when a shot from Lauren was deflected in by a Taverham defender.  Hannah then completed the 1st half scoring to make it 6-0 at half time. 

Adele and Maisie were both struggling at the back with illness but both put in good performances.  Toddy then scored and quickly set up a goal for Lauren.  All credit to Taverham who kept tying and got a goal to make it 8-1.  This was after Adele had to come off to leave Hethersett with 10 players.  Hannah then completed her hat-trick and Lauren quickly did the same to leave the final score 10-1 to the home team.

April 5th                   Thorpe    4     Hethersett    4

Megan Todd, Hannah Waters, Tammy Graves.

A very good game spoilt by a pitch that resembled a countryside meadow.

Hethersett controlled the 1 st half and deservedly took the lead when a good cross into the box was turned in from a tight angle from the returning Tammy.  Numerous chances were created at both ends but the score remained 1-0 at half time.

The second half started the same way and it wasn't long before  Tammy had a shot saved by the keeper but was quickest to react to put the rebound into the net.  Toddy then produced some wonderful skills on the bye line before scoring past the keeper from an acute angle. Thorpe then hit Hethersett with 4 quick goals through errors by the oranges and with time running out Tammy put a ball across the face of goal and Toddy was there to get a deserved equaliser.  Mention must go to Hannah at the front who put in a selfless display without getting a goal who display deserved.
A good display from the team who were missing Emma and Emily through injury and Lizzie and Lauren through other commitments.

April 19th                Norwich City     1     Hethersett     4

The match was played in lovely sunshine but with a cool wind blowing.  Hethersett kicked with the wind in the first half and had the majority of the ball, which was hardly surprising as Norwich only turned up with 9 players. After some good work by Lauren, Hannah beat the Norwich keeper to put us 1-0 up.  After squandering several more chances Tammy eventually made it 2-0.

In the 2nd half it was much the same story, but when the ball did find it's way to the Hethersett back line they did not loo at confident as they should have been.  A through ball to Hannah was finished off cooly for the centre forward to grab a 2nd goal for her that was fully deserved.  After some slack defending a Norwich forward broke clear and though Chalie in goal pulled off a fine save she could not stop the forward firing in the rebound.  There was just enough time for Tammy to break clear of the home defence and slot the ball under the advancing keeper to give the scoreline a truer reflection on the game.  A final word of thanks to our latest sponsor Gary at The Hangman Curtains and Blinds company for coming along and presenting us with the cheque for the wet jackets.

April 26th               North Walsham    4               Hethersett   9

As per usual this season Hethersett turned up to play with less than 11 players in a re-reun of the cup semi-final.  10 players turned up and then it was discoveredthat Hannah had a very heavily bruised foot and Megan had a throat infection.  This did not stop both girls from playing to their credit.  The game started with Hethersett dominating the play even though they had a player less on the pitch, but against the run of play North Walsham broke away and scored.  This just spurred Hethersett to more effort and they responded with 3 fine goals,  2 by Tammy and 1  from Hannah.  Half time score 1-3

The 2nd half started much the same but Hethersett got the next goal, Tammy completing the first of her hat-tricks.  North Walsham then pulled a goal back to make it 2-4 but Tammy then scored her 4th of the game.  North Walsham then pulled a goal back to make it 3-5 but Hannah got her 2nd of the match straight away to make it 3-6.  Tammy the got 2 more to make it 3-8 before the home side scored again to make it 4-8, the last word went to Tammy to make the final score 4-9.  If it had not been for the home keeper it could have been a lot better for us.  Hannah, scoring 2 and setting up 4, and Tammy scoring 7 had superb games, but it was not just a 2 player display as the 10 players can all be very proud and satisfied with their performances.  This victory guaranteed 3rd place in the league and when all the injuries are taken into account the squad can all stand tall and be very happy with the season they have had but will think what would have happened if we had had a full squad all season.

May 3rd                   North Lynn      4       Hethersett     3

On a nice sunny morning Hethersett turned out to play league champions North Lynn knowing to expect a hard physical battle.  With Stacey not fully fit they started with Charlie and Adele as a centre back pairing which looked solid.  Oranges started excellently and had the champions on the back foot from the start and were unlucky not to be 2 goals up before Lynn broke and scored by their centre forward, unlike before when heads dropped Hethersett responded and forced their way back into the game and when Lynn failed to clear a corner Toddy was on hand to fire the ball home from inside the box.  Hethersett then controlled the game for long periods of the half but on another breakaway the Lynn forward stole in between Stacey and Ellie to steer the ball home to make the half time score 1-2.

The 2nd half started with Lynn on the attack and it wasn't long before they scored a 3rd goal.  Hethersett didn't give up and when Hannah forced her way past 2 defenders with strength and skill to put a ball across the area Lizzie was on hand to put the ball in the net.  Hetherseet then kicked on again and when, for some inexplicable reason, the Lynn keeper walked out of her box with the ball we were awarded a free kick.  Tammy tried to take it quickly but with the Lynn defender standing right in front of her it was blocked and a Lynn player took exception to this and a bit of pushing and shoving took place between the two players, once order had been restrored Tammy fired the free kick into the bottom corner of the net to make the score 3-3.  With abotu 5 minutes left Charlie was on the receiving end of a very late challenge which resulted in her having to be carried from the pitch with a damaged knee.  2 minutes later Lauren landed heavily on her knee and also had to be carried off leaving us with 10 players.  Hethersett still pressed forward for the winner and were unlucky when a hopeful ball  into the box bounced kindly for the centre forward to score to make the final score 3-4.  This game summed up our season with injuries ruling results.
 
The girls have had a very hard season, but to finish in 3rd place is a testament to their strength and ability, they are a team in the true meaning of the word and, injuries permitting can look forward to having success next season, whether it be as U17 or Ladies teams.
