A National FA Community Charter Club

The Chairman welcomed those present and reported on a busy and important year in the club's history. The past season had seen the club running a record number of sides and he thanked everyone for their hard work.

The secretary stated that every fixture had been honoured during the season and there had been excellent support from team officials in getting scores in on time. He congratulated the Under-11s and Under-17s in coming first and second respectively in their leagues. The Seniors had been named club of the year in the South Norfolk Sunday League. The club had built up a good reputation for providing football for all ages.

He felt the club was now very vibrant and had a good representation on the playing field committee and a good relationship with the village hall committee. In addition the club is represented on the Hethersett Sports Group which is looking at long term facilities in the village.

The club is well organised and this was shown by the success of the five a side event in July. The only negative aspect was not being able to find someone to run mini soccer for eight to 10 year olds.

The treasurer reported a healthy balance and said that individual teams were responsible for raising funds from match and annual fees. The five-a-side profit was likely to be about £1,800. Ultimately the club would be looking towards leasing its own land and possibly setting up its own home.

He expressed his appreciation for the continued sponsorship from Hethersett Social Club and Tescos.

Various fund-raising efforts were outlined.

The secretary asked for the club constitution to be tightened up to set down the make-up of the committee. Officially the club committee should consist of officers plus one representative from each team. It is acceptable for more than one member of a team to attend meetings but each team only has one vote. In addition the committee has co-opted two people with specific skills needed. It was agreed that the club committee would take another look at the constitution.

The following officers were elected:

Chairman Peter Steward
Vice-Chairman Ray Milne
Secretary Mel Perkins
Treasurer Mel Perkins
Fund-raising Secretary Sue Milne
Assistant Secretary Paul White
Committee Officers + Team Managers + David Manington

It was agreed that the club should have a mission statement to give it a purpose. The wording will be discussed at a committee meeting. It was agreed that the following factors should be incorporated:

Emphasise the youth element of the club and the benefits of belonging to the club as well as the benefits to the community.
The club's important role in the community with such events as the funday.
The club's role in lobbying and supporting improved sporting facilities both in the village and in the county.
The importance of the club as a force for sport in the village.

It was suggested that each team keep an injury book to log all players who have to be substituted through injury. This would safeguard the club if subsequent problems occur. Members agreed that each team should have at least one person with basic first aid training. Courses are organised by both St John's and the Red Cross and grants were available for training.

Equipment requirements for the coming season were discussed. There would not now be an Under-15s side.

The club is likely to have both pitches on the Memorial Playing Field since the withdrawal of the other senior Hethersett team. In addition the club has been offered the use of a pitch at Old Hall School.

Sue Milne suggested the possibility of a second girls team. The club now has sweat shirts and polo shirts available.

The summer barbecues had proved successful and were in profit. Social activities for the season would include another presentation night and a football quiz. Mark Kerr suggested that to mark the Millennium all players should be given a commemorative medallion with each team financing their own through fund-raising. A regular newsletter was also discussed.

The secretary said that the season for most teams would start in September. The new men's team will play in the Norwich Sunday League.

Hethersett Social Club has again offered to sponsor the club and it was agreed to ask them to pay for a new set of goalposts.

The club also agreed to join the Norfolk Football Injuries Treatment Society.
