A National FA Community Charter Club Hethersett Athletic
could be just 90 minutes away from taking the Norwich Sunday League
Premier Division title. They dropped to second
place at the weekend thanks to Marlborough’s 3-2 victory at Acle. Now
the two teams clash in what could be a title decider at Easton College
on Sunday (10.30 a.m kick off). Athletic were without a
game, but a win this week will bring the championship to Hethersett for
the first time in the club’s history. A draw will leave Hethersett
needing two points from their final two fixtures. Hethersett Athletic Girls Under-11s are
champions of the Norfolk Women’s and Girls League Under-11 Section. They made sure of the
title with a 4-0 win over Wendene in their final match of the season. Star striker Sophie
Rock led the way with a hat-trick to take her tally for the season to
19. The other goal came from Erica Hall – her first of the season. Hethersett needed to
take at least a point from the match to win the league. They saw a
number of early chances go close before Sophie Rock set them on their
way with two well taken first half goals. Hethersett soaked up
some pressure after the break before pushing forward again. Rock
completed her hat-trick and then Erica Hall put the icing on the cake
with the team’s fourth. On their way to the
title, the girls played 12 matches, winning eight, drawing three and
losing just once to Blofield. Hethersett Ladies
hammered King’s Lynn 8-0 in the second game of their mini round robin
league tournament. Their goals came from
Emily Coates (3), Jodie Rettie, Jemma Smythe, Logan Shepherd, Nicola
Bray and an own goal. This Sunday the team
complete the league section of the competition with a home match against
Mulbarton Belles (Easton College 2.p.m). Hethersett Athletic Under-15 Girls beat Hempnall Hunnies 6-2 with four goals from Polly Tarrant and two from Kim Broom.
