QUIZ TIME

 

The latest quiz organised by the men's first team raised almost £200 for team funds. the event was held at Hethersett Middle School on 23rd February with the questions set by club chair Peter Steward. The event was organised by Gary, Vickie and Ross Potter and the winning team were Any Ideas with 135 points. Full scores were: Andy Ideas 135, Table Five 131, No Names 131,  Sodoku 130,  Hawks 124, Better 8 Than Never 121, Wet Wellies 119, Gary Got the Chips 114, Champagne Super Novas 109. Bowing out of County Cup

 

 

The Men's First team bowed out of the County Cup at the quarter-final stage when they went down 1-0 in a competitive game against holders Delaneys. The team are pictured above with their new shirts sponsored by Hethersett Park Farm Hotel and Hethersett Queen's Head. The team was: Back Row (left to right) - Scott Woodock, Matt Cartledge, Martyn Carver, Matt Steward, Chris Bolderstone, Ross Potter, Paul Franklin, Danny Self. Front - Steven Beck, John Curtis, Mark Appleton, Matt Barrett, Dean Fitzgerald, James Rice, Sam Wenham.

 

County Game Postponed

Norfolk Ladies' scheduled match against Essex at Dereham on 18th January was postponed due to bad weather. Hethersett had four players - Jodie Allard, Jemma Smythe, Nicola Stolworthy and Nicola Bray in the squad.

Chris Completes His Ton

 

 

 

Under-16 player Chris Marshall (pictured with team-mates above) scored his 100th goal for the club in the 2-2 draw with Salhouse on November 12th. Chris went on to score his 101st with an audacious back heel. He was the team's top scorer at Under-13, Under-14 and Under-15 level and won the prestigious club golden boot award in consecutive seasons in 2003/04 and 2004/05.

Top Signing for Women/Nicola Nets for County

The women's team have completed the signing of top striker Nicola Bray from King's Lynn. The 27-year-old is currently top scorer in the East Anglian Division One East.

Jodie Allard and Nicola Stolworthy played for Norfolk in their 4-3 win over Hertfordshire at Dereham on November 7th. Jodie played the full game and Nicola came on after just 10 minutes following an injury. Nicola went on to score one of Norfolk's goals and was named player of the match.

Christmas Social

The club held its Christmas Raffle Social Evening at the Village Hall on Saturday 9th December. The evening included a buffet and quiz with funds being raised both for individual teams and for club development.

 

Latest Quiz

The latest club quiz was held at Hethersett Middle School with proceeds of almost £200 being split between the Men's Reserves and A team. Eight teams took part with "Raining Champions" coming first with 260 points, closely followed by The Hawks on 251 and Bookends on 238. The booby prize went to Kirstie and the OAPs with 173 points.

 

County Call  For Women's Quartet

Women's team players Jodie Allard, Nicola Stolworthy, Jemma Smythe,  Hazel Shepherd and Logan Shepherd have been selected in the squad for the game against Hertfordshire at Dereham on 7th November. Only three clubs are represented in the squad - Hethersett Athletic, Norwich City Canaries and Norwich City Ladies. 

James Rice (pictured above) played for Norfolk Under-18s in their game against Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. Unfortunately Norfolk were beaten 5-1. Ricey has now been chosen for the county squad to play Essex at Billericay on 14th November.

Former Athletic player Chris Steward has been chosen to play for Sussex in their coming game against Kent.

TAKING THEIR BOW

The girls Under-11s (pictured above) played their first ever match when they visited Dereham in a friendly and won 2-0. To read vice-chairman Sue Milne's report of the match click here.

DANNY'S SPECIAL DAY

 

Men's A team player Danny Holman became the first player to complete 300 league and cup games for the club when he turned out for the Men's A team against Stoke in the County Cup on October 8th. In the photo above Danny is presented with a special certificate by team coach Bob Oliver before the match whilst team-mates look on. Danny has become the first player in the history of the club to be awarded honorary life membership in recognition of his milestone. A full report and interview with Danny will appear in the November edition of the club's newsletter Athletic Angles which will be published at the beginning of November. An article on Danny appeared in the Evening News of Wednesday October 11th.

 

Start the Season In the News

This season we will be introducing a number of new features to the web site. A special section has been set-up to bring you news items from every area of the club from the men's section to the youths and women's sections. This can be accessed by clicking here.  We will also be issuing a monthly newsletter both in printed format and online. Athletic Angles will be published at the beginning of each month and will be distributed free in printed form to all teams. A full colour version will be available on the web. Edition One for September 20006 is now available by clicking here. Finally we have introduced a blog section which you can join. The first two bloggers are club chairman Peter Steward and vice-chair Sue Milne. Peter will be producing a blog on club activities to tell you exactly what is going on behind the scenes and discussing the club's progress during the season. High Standards at New Tournament

Arsenal are the first winners of a new ladies tournament which took place at Easton College on Wednesday August 23rd, 2006. Hethersett Ladies were runners-up after losing an exciting final to the Gunners after a penalty shoot out that went to sudden death. Hethersett Ladies also put up a remarkable performance in an Essex 11-a-side tournament where they were narrowly beaten in the final by Crystal Palace Ladies having beaten another Palace team and Brighton Ladies earlier. Norman Conquest

The 2006 club five-a-side tournament for adult teams was won by Norman B who beat clubmates Norman A in the final at the Memorial Playing Field. Eighteen teams took part in the contest and results are available by clicking here.

Logan Models New Norwich City Shirts

Hethersett Ladies player Logan Shepherd was called on to provide the glamour when Norwich City modelled their kit for the new season. Here she is pictured with club captain Craig Fleming with the new away kit sponsored by airline Flybe.com. For more pictures from the photoshoot click here.

Presentation Events

This year's annual club presentation was split into three separate events. The four adult sides held a presentation evening and meal at Park Farm Hotel on Friday May 5th and the youth sides enjoyed a presentation and funday at Hethersett Middle School on Sunday May 14th. Reserves Win Promotion

The men's Reserves team have gained promotion to Division 2B of the Evening News Norwich Sunday League. The team finished in fourth place, but go up thanks to vacant spaces in the division above. It means that next season we will be running teams in the Premier Division, Division 2B and Division 4B. For details of the Reserves' season click here.

Under-8s Win Five-A-Side

Hethersett Under-8A took part in a five-a-side tournament at Dereham and notched four wins out of four to take the trophy. in the semi-finals they beat Mattishall 3-0 and in the final goals from Peter Wiltshire and Joe Barratt gave them a 2-0 win over Dereham. In addition goalscoring sensation Peter Wiltshire who last season smashed the club scoring record with 70 goals was named player of the year in the under-8 age group at the South Norfolk Youth League Presentation Evening. Peter is pictured above receiving his club golden boot award from Norfolk FA Chair and club vice-president Stuart Dracup at the club's youth funday.

Partnership Plans

Final details are being put together for the coming partnership between Easton College and Hethersett Athletic. The two groups have been meeting regularly since the initial meeting in January 2005 when over 50 club members and supporters voted unanimously in principle of a partnership. The move will see teams from Hethersett Athletic playing at the College from the coming season. We will give more details as they become available. More Help Needed

More help is needed with running the club. We are looking for volunteers to join the club committee. A number of posts were left unfilled at the Annual Meeting and it is vital that we recruit people to these to make the most of the club's success.  We are particularly looking for an assistant secretary, somebody with fund-raising experience and a marketing and publicity officer. All offers of help, however small, will be gratefully accepted. If you do wish to volunteer please contact club chair Peter Steward on 01603 811052 or secretary Mel Perkins on 01603 810304.
