Hethersett
Athletic completed their pre-season preparations with a 0-0 draw against
Norwich Sunday League Division One side Wymondham Rangers. Rangers
provided the ideal opposition to test Athletic with both defences on top
throughout a very even match. Premier
Division Hethersett took the opportunity to give run outs to a number of
their young academy players as well as a number of new faces. Afterwards
manager Ross Potter expressed himself well satisfied with pre-season
preparations that also saw Athletic beat Anglian Combination Premier
Division Hempnall 3-1. “Our
pre-season preparations are now complete and we are progressing well and
now looking forward to the season with a number of new players. We are
confident that we will have another good season,” Potter said. The
last two seasons have seen Hethersett finish third and then second in
the Premier Division. This season they will be looking to go one better
and take the title for the first time in the club’s history. They are
also looking for a good run in the county cup. They
have a tough start to their league campaign with a home game against
Delaneys this Sunday (kick off at Easton College 10.30 a.m). On
September 9th they visit Freemasons Arms in the County Cup
and then have home league games against Rosary Rams on the 16th
and Mattishall Youth Club Old Boys on the 30th.

Athletic Women’s team sailed into unchartered territory when they made
the long journey to Haringey for their first game in the Eastern Region
Women’s League Premier Division. The
opposition may have been stronger, but top scorer Nicola Bray continued
where she finished off last season with a hat-trick. Expectations
at Hethersett were very high after a pre-season build-up that included
victories over Lincoln and Crystal Palace. It was a higly entertaining
match with Hethersett taking the lead on three occasions only to have to
settle for a draw. Nicola Stolworthy and Jodie Allard both went close
early on before Nicola Bray opened the scoring in the 20th
minute. Haringey
equalised five minutes from the break, only to see Bray pop up for her
second just before half-time. Both teams pushed forward after the break
and Haringey equalised again before Bray completed her hat-trick. New
signing Sophie Fuller almost increased the visitors’ lead but
Haringey’s never say die attitude paid off as they equalised for the
third time. This
Sunday the women’s team travel to Woodbridge Town in the league
