A National FA Community Charter Club Hethersett Ladies 6 Chelmsford City Ladies
1 Hethersett Ladies are gearing up for a grandstand
end to the season as they chase a remarkable treble. On Sunday they beat Chelmsford City Ladies 6-1 in
the third round of the League Cup. They are also in the semi-finals of
the Two Counties Cup and virtually certain of taking the Eastern Region
Women’s Division One East title. It has been a remarkable season for a side that has
stepped up in class and lost just one
game all season. On Sunday, a massive effort to make the pitch at
Easton College playable paid off as the team produced some fine
attacking football to destroy their Essex opponents. Nicola Bray scored twice to take her haul to 21
goals in eight games since joining the club from King’s Lynn. Other
goals came from Jemma Smythe, Hazel Brewster, Jodie Allard and Logan
Shepherd. Logan scored her first goal for the club after finishing off a
move practised regularly at training sessions. This Sunday Hethersett take on Chelmsford at home
again – this time in the league. Hethersett need just one point from
their two remaining games – both against Chelmsford – to take the
title. They won’t be complacent, however, but the cup result will have
boosted their confidence. The match kicks off at Easton College at 2 p.m. The
following week the team wrap up their league fixtures with a visit to
Chelmsford. Their Two Counties Cup semi-final will be against Norwich
City Racers at home on March 18th. Hethersett Athletic Girls Under-11s visited Wendene
and came away with a 3-2 victory thanks to a hat-trick from Sophie Rock. This coming Saturday the Girls Under-11s are in action with a home game against Aylsham (Easton College 10 a.m). Hethersett Athletic’s league match against Quebec
was a victim of the weather on Sunday with the match being called off
shortly before the kick off due to a waterlogged pitch. The Reserve team’s game at home to Earlham United
and the A team’s match at North Walsham Warriors were also called off.
The Reserves have been awarded three points for the match at Bayer when
the home team walked off the pitch and refused to play on. This Sunday the first team have an exciting League
Cup Quarter-Final tie against Marlborough (Easton College 10.30 a.m). It
will be the first time the clubs have met this season with both still in
the hunt of a league and cup double. The Reserves visit Wymondham Rangers (10.30) and
the A team are home to Wymondham Rangers Reserves (Memorial Playing
Field 10.30). Sunday promises to be a big day for the club at Easton College. The men’s cup quarter-final is followed in the afternoon by the Ladies League match against Chelmsford City with the side needing just one point to make sure of the Eastern Area Women’s Division One East title. Hethersett Under-14s had an excellent 1-0 win at
Horsford in a keenly fought game played in continuous rain but on a good
pitch. Inspirational captain Luke Giles returned after injury to help
Hethersett put together a fine passing performance. Hethersett failed to
convert their chances against a hard-working Horsford side in the first
half. The second half continued in the same vein until Jamie Crowe
received the ball on the right and made ground before floating a
pin-point cross to the far post for Darrell Wigger to convert in style.
Horsford applied late pressure but couldn’t break through a Hethersett
defence in which Freddie Raven was outstanding. The entire Hethersett
side deserve praise for a fine team performance. Hethersett Under-9A team played Old Catton at
Norman and came away with a 3-0 win with goals from Ashley Gray, Conrad
Doggett and an own goal. Josh Wilcox scored a hat-trick for Hethersett
Athletic Under-12s at Norman but still ended on the losing side in an
8-3 defeat. All the other club youth team matches were
postponed through waterlogged pitches. This Sunday the Under-16s visit Salhouse, the Under-15s are home to Salhouse (Memorial Field 2 p.m), the Under-14s are at Thorpe, the Under-13s play Thorpe at Old Hall School (10.30), the Under-12s are home to Poringland (Old Hall School 2 p.m), the Under-11s visit Fakenham and the Under-10s play Thorpe and Salhouse at Salhouse.
