A National FA Community Charter Club Ladies Take League Cup for Second Year Running

Hethersett retained the Eastern Region Women's League Cup after a close encounter with Cambridge University at Soham FC. Athletic had to do plenty of defending in a very even game that could have gone either way. In the end the team emulated last year's side. It was a triumph for manager Chris Bolderstone who has re-built the side after losing a number of players to university and other clubs. There was little to chose between the sides with Cambridge taking the lead after 15 minutes only to see that effort cancelled out as top scorer Emily Coates burst through to fire home after 26 minutes. What turned out to be the winning goal arrived on the stroke of half-time and there was an element of luck about it. The keeper failed to hold onto a speculative shot from Coates and only succeeded in dropping the ball into the net. Both sides had chances after the break and Hethersett had to be alert to clear a shot off the line after a goalmouth scramble. Athletic managed to keep the students out after that to notch another fine trophy win for the club.
