2009/2010 Season News

Ton Up for Hannah

Hannah Waters has become only the second ladies/girls player and the 12th overall to complete 100 league and cup goals for the club. Only Sophie Rock has scored more (112). Hannah is well on her way to setting a new goalscoring record for a single season. She is currently on 71 - just 8 short of Danny Gray's record haul of 79 last season.

Nerve Jangling Cup Win

Our ladies first team are through to the semi-finals of the Eastern Region League Cup after a nerve jangling penalty shoot out victory at Peterborough. A very young Hethersett team put in a magnificent performance to draw 3-3 after extra-time to take the match into penalties. With the score at 5-5 'keeper Amy Bell saved a penalty and then scored the winner with the next kick. We have won the cup over the last two seasons. In the semi-finals we will come up against one of the following -  Billericay, Chelmsford, Braintree or Ipswich Wanderers.  For a full report of the quarter-final against Peterborough click here. The team returned to league action with a 1-1 draw at Woodbridge with Grace Birchall scoring our goal.

The Ladies Hearts had another good win - 3-0 at home to Runton United with. Hannah Waters hit another hat-trick. Mystery surrounds the Under-14 Girls fixture at Red Rose which wasn't played and the league are investigating the matter. The Girls Under-17s were also without a match when opponents Freethorpe pulled out and it appears we have been awarded the points with a 0-0 scoreline.

Sophie Sets Record

Girls Under-14 player Sophie Rock has become the first player from the girls/women's section to notch 100 goals. Sophie did it in style by scoring seven in the  14-1 win over Spixworth. Congratulations Sophie. Congratulations to Sophie who hasn't missed a game over the past two seasons and has reached the ton mark in just 79 games at a rate of more than one goal a game. For more news from the women's and girls section of the club click here. Who will be next to the 100 mark? Hannah Waters has 89 and Emily Coates 94.

County Successes

Congratulations to Megan Todd and Amy Bell for playing for Norfolk Under-16s against Suffolk. The team consisted mainly of local school players with a few centre of excellence players and they came up against the majority of the Ipswich Academy and put up a superb display to only go down 3-0. The team was managed by our Ladies First Team player Kate Ellis who was assisted by our Ladies First team manager Chris Bolderstone. Meanwhile Adele McCrory made her full Norfolk debut in the recent game against Essex while Emily Coates was presented with her commemorative cap for completing 12 county appearances.

Top-Notchers

Two of our ladies first team players feature in the top four league goalscorers in the Eastern Region Premier Division. Emily Coates leads the way with 17 and Emma Mulley is currently in fourth place with seven.

More Teams and Appeal for More Under-14 Players

The club's blossoming women's and girls section is looking to add another team after Christmas. We are looking to introduce an Under-12s girls' team with coaching being provided by members of our Ladies team. We are also looking to run special taster sessions in local schools. As they say - watch this space.

Meanwhile The Under 14 Girls are looking for additional players, having lost a couple to long term injury and another who does not want to play any more.

The team have moved up to nine a side this season. They train from 6 p.m until 7 p.m Tuesday evenings at the Football Development Centre (Powerleague) and play Saturday mornings in the fast expanding Norfolk Women's and Girls League.  Come along to training all ability levels welcome. If you are interested contact Tim Cooke 01603 812682 or Steve Rock 01603 812865.

Fund-Raisers - Let's Get Bag Packing

The women's and girls section are busy lining up a number of fund-raising events over the coming months, Last season's bag pack at Waitrose supermarket at Wymondham proved so successful that we are going to repeat it this season thanks to the generosity of Waitrose. This will take place either at Christmas or next Easter depending on arrangements and how fixtures fall. The section will also be having a pitch at a future Banham car boot sale and a pre-Christmas quiz night is also on the cards, along with a special World Cup competition. More details of all these events will be posted on this site as soon as we have them. The players are also looking to do a sponsored "Turkey Run" after Christmas to raise money and help them to shed some of the extra poundage put on over the festive period. Again more details on this site as and when we receive them.

Summer Tournament

The women's and girls section is looking to hold a summer tournament on Hethersett Memorial Playing Field next year. More details on this will follow.

Bidding for a Hat-Trick

Our hopes of winning the Eastern Region League Cup for the third consecutive year received a huge boost with a 1-0 victory over Eastern Region Premier Division leaders Barking thanks to a penalty from Emily Coates in the last minute of the game. The omens look good as in the past two seasons on the way to the trophy we have knocked out the sides currently sitting on top of the league. For a report on the game click here.
