A National FA Community Charter Club Hethersett Athletic
celebrated another successful season with a prize presentation evening
for its adult teams at Park Farm Hotel. The Ladies team was in
particular jubilant mood as players paraded the Eastern Region Women’s
League Cup won the previous week with a 3-0 final victory over Barking. Guests for the evening
included chairman of the Eastern Region Women’s League David Dawson
and registration secretary Bill Servey. Bill presented a number of
awards throughout the evening. Ladies team coach Tom
Parke spoke about the hard work put in by the players throughout the
season. “Our aim before the season started was to get to the cup final
and finish in the top three in the Premier Division. We have already
bettered that aim by taking the League Cup and being assured of
finishing in the top two in the league,” he said. “We have had a steep learning curve this season. Being a young team we all made mistakes early on, but learned from them and we are unbeaten in the league in 2008 and have just won a major trophy which is a tribute to the hard work put in by the players and coaches,” Parke added.
The following trophies
were presented to the Ladies team: Top goalscorer, Nicola Bray; Best
attitude, Nikki Wigg; Players player of the year, Kelly Gray; Supporters
Player of the year, Emily Coates; Manager’s player of the season,
Logan Shepherd; coaches Player of the Season, Nicola Bray. Men’s First team
manager Ross Potter, who is stepping down from the post, reported on a
mixed season that had seen the team finish in sixth position in the
Norwich Sunday League Premier Division after a fine start that brought
five consecutive victories. This was followed by a poor mid season and
an ending flourish as the team re-building began to take shape. “There is an
excellent opportunity for a new manager to re-build the team and I’m
confident that the club as a whole will be going places,” Potter said. Potter presented the
following trophies: Top scorer, Mark Appleton; Players Player of the
Season, Lee Barratt; Manager’s Player of the Season, Matt Steward.
There was also a bouquet for Vicky Potter who is stepping down after a number of seasons as first team physio. To mark their outstanding contribution to the club the mother and son pairing of Ross and Vicky Potter were presented with the Lee Thompson Memorial Trophy given in memory of club member Lee Thompson who was killed in an accident in 1999.
