Girls Under-11 Blog - A Referee's Perspective

Young referee Tim Sadler gives his perspective of the Under-11 Girls

Refereeing who would be crazy enough to do it! 13/01/07

The thirteenth of January saw the Hethersett under eleven girls travel to Docking for their first game after the Christmas break it was a bit of a journey but never mind everyone got there safe and sound and we got down to business as usual.

Before the game I noticed that the referee was quite young (happy about this due to being a referee myself) but the only thing that I thought was a bit strange was having assistant referees in mini soccer (I am sure it won’t be the strangest thing I will ever see though!) ANYWAY Hethersett started the game kicking down hill into beautiful winter sunshine a bit of a hasty start but after fourteen minutes Hethersett had scored through their American import Teagan with a well taken goal. At half time Hethersett go in 1- 0 to the good and as usual Joe gave the girls a fine team speech then it was time for the second half to begin.

Hethersett started to get stuck in and found the net through Sophie Rock (Rocky). After this Hethersett started to lose a bit of momentum Docking used this used this to their advantage and other a string of brilliant passing they found the net on the ten minute mark and looked like they would go on to equalize.

Docking were now starting to get the upper hand on Hethersett and in the fourteenth minute looked liked to have scored a wonderful goal only to be disallowed due to the referee already having stopping the game for an injury that me and my dad will probably argue over for the whole of the next week but according to “The FA Laws Of The Game” it is up to the referee to decide if the player is seriously injured and to stop the game or if it is a minor injury to decide to play on but the referee decided that the injury was serious so stopped the game a let off for the girls. After this injury Docking were down one girl for most of the remainder of the game and Hethersett used this to their advantage and went to win 5 - 1 with further goals from Rocky and Teagan.

Following my involvement with the club over the last few months I have to say a special thanks to every one at Hethersett Athletic and especially Sue Milne for letting me get involved with such a brilliant club!
